MRMapEdit - Development

Post by Russ Hore »

I have stopped development of the PC based MRMapEdit.

Don't worry though :D as I am working on a web based version that will hold a single copy of MRMap.ini. Specific team users will be able to update their part of the 'ini' file and all teams can then download a new copy of MRMap.ini including all the changes.

This should mean everybody has a more up to date MRMap.ini file, as long as you download a new copy occasionally.
When I have something worth playing with we will open it up to the testers.

Russ,

Just to make thing easier for users, I would like MRMap not to have the ini file any more (well not for team and radio ID's). MRMap will, when connected to the internet, get all the information that used to be in the ini file from the data that users set up via the web.... This should make life a lot easier.

Good idea. So we would need to put the database somewhere we (MRMap and MRMapWebEdit) can both access it. One of the MRMap servers ?

I assume when connected you would download to local storage so things still work if the web connection was not available.

Do you want a 'last updated' date stored somewhere? so you know when to download a new set of data?

Yes I propose to cache it so that it will continue to work when not connected.
Not sure I would use a last updated date, I'd just update every time you did a File|New in MRMap. If there was no connection available when you did this, then it would use the cached version and make a note to try again at periodic intervals.

MRMapLite would continue to use the ini file as before.
