Generic Simoco radio config files (RevB)

The attached config files are for the Simoco SRP9120/SRP9130 portable radios and the Simoco SRM9030 when it's used as a base radio. They're not sophisticated in any way and don't make much use of many of the facilities offered by these radios however they have been tested on my sets and are working files from which you can create ones more suited to your own team.

Also included is a comma delimited, .csv, file that can be read and edited in Microsoft Excel and can be imported as a channel table into any model of Simoco SRP/SRM radio so keeping all your radios on the same list of channels in the same order.

I always use whatever is the current version of the Simoco programming software but you now need to get hold of this software directly from Simoco as the TMC website has been closed.
The Simoco programming software is more correctly called the FPP (and has been since the days of PRM80s and PRP73 etc) It stands for Field Personality Programmer for those interested.

The channels are programmed as though the radio was being used by an LDSAMRA team and so the team names are those found in the Lakes. Just edit them to reflect teams in your own area who use the same channels and change any left over to 'TWC'. At switch-on the radios will default to the last channel used because my radios are used for a number of non-operational jobs. You would just change this in the programming so that the radio fired up on the channel of your choice.

There's a full programming guidelines manual available from the downloads section of the MRMap website which should enable you to make the remaining changes needed to turn these configs into ones specific to your own team.

It doesn't matter if you put the portable radio configs into an SRP9130 or an SRP9120, just change the radio type to suit or don't bother, the radios will still take the config and work fine. The actual keypad for an SRP9130 is under the front cover of a 9120, and you can just buy a keypad front panel to convert between the two if you decide you got the wrong one originally.

The SRP9120 config is set for use with a GPS microphone but it doesn't matter if you don't have one, it will just send it's callsign and no position report in this case. The callsign (Own Data Address) has been set at 64100, this equates in MRMap to a team called 'MRMAP' this is a default testing 'team' with me as it's only member so doesn't upset anyone if it's used by others. Callsign 64100 further reduces to specific radio number, 100, in this fictitious team so if your current initialisation file is up to date, you should appear as 'MRMAP 100'. You need to read the full programming guidelines manual to know just why this happens. This is on the Downloads page of the MRMap website.
Once registered with the program, that is, when you're radio appears on the assets panel of MRMap, you will be polled by the program at a preset interval, the default is every 90 seconds. You will see the words 'GPS Poll' appear on the portable's display. Normally it says 'Queued' but we had some problems with team members understanding this. If your config was based on one by Dave Binks it will say 'GPS Wait'. If it's from one of my configs, it will say 'GPS Poll'. You can edit this to anything that will fit on the screen. The radio functions normally whilst this is displayed and reverts to your selected channel display when it's reply slot (again, see the programming guidelines manual) comes around If any key, including the PTT, is presses whilst 'GPS Poll' or 'Queued' etc is being displayed then the position report is cancelled and not sent. This is true for all keys except the PTT where the poll request from base is cancelled when the PTT is pressed but a position report is sent immediately.

The SRM9030 is configured as a base radio and as such has an Own Data Address of 1, again this is covered in more detail in the programming guidelines. In the case of the attached files, I've assumed that a Dmap accessory card is fitted to the radio to allow it's use with a GPS tracking computer. You could also use an MA-ASIG accessory board and the Input/Output options would need to be changed accordingly. Although the Dmap accessory board is significantly more expensive than the MA-ASIG board, it requires no fiddling about with in order to work and provided all is connected up properly, it just works. An additional advantage is that you now have three RJ45 ports available for use whereas using an MA-ASIG board limits you to two ports.
