To make it easier to find, the latest callsign calculator (7d) spreadsheet has been added to this post. For those who keep asking me, it's password protected in order to prevent accidents with the cells containing formulae. If you want to see how the maths is arrived at, the password is 'susan' to save you the job of hacking it.

Something else that's cropped up with a number of teams new to GPS tracking now requesting callsign blocks. If you want to use MRMap to track your team members or vehicles, we need your callsign so that MRMap prints up the right name on the screen. This isn't necessarily your team name however, it's the name by which you address your mobiles over the radio. As an example, Patterdale MRT in the Lakes uses the callsign 'Patrick' and not 'Patterdale'. Cave Rescue Organisation in Yorkshire are known by everyone as 'CRO' (pronounced 'crow'). It might be obvious to you what you call your team members but it's not necessarily so to us I'm afraid so just because we know which team you're in, doesn't mean we automatically know your radio callsign. Having the right one makes giving out callsign blocks that bit quicker. If you look down the list of teams in the attached ini file, this is what we've been told is your radio callsign. Please let us know if there are any errors. Whatever appears in the ini file team list is what MRmap will put in front of your individual members name/callsign.
The current list of teams registered with MRMap are:-

Some of the above teams use mobile phones to put their team member locations on the map rather than radio. There's no problem with this as you foot the bill for that and it costs us nothing. Most team now have a mixture of radios and mobile phones tracking their members. MRMap handles both.

Note that any editing you've already done to your existing ini file will be lost if you just bang the attached one over the top. Usually it's only team lists or snail trail colours that change so I'll try and give you some indication as to what has changed in each new posting. Note also that the master ini file always defaults to SD208860 as the start-up map location. This will always need you to enter your own local grid if you use this file as is. [/color]

Examples:-
RadioComPort=-20 Change this value to a smaller number if you definately know your comm port is less than 16. The minus sign causes MRMap to search the specified number of ports for one with a radio connected
If you use more than one radio connected to your computer then each comm port needs a separate search value so for three radios, you have something like
RadioComPort=-20,-16,-16

If you're absolutely sure that the comm port numbers on your computer don't ever exceed a particular number and this is really only certain when you use serial ports and not USB to serial adaptors, then you can set your ports with something similar to:
RadioComPort=-7,-7,-7
This will result in a faster search through your available ports. If you take any radios out of circuit then reduce the number of ports to be searched for accordingly, for the same reason

Country=0 Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland teams change this value to 1

DefaultViewCentre=SD208860 Change this to the grid reference of your base, house or whatever.
This is where the program starts up if no radios have been plotted or after you perform a 'New' command to clear old information.

Since the introduction by Dave, of aerial photographs and the recently released, 1:250,000 scale maps into MRMap alongside the normal 1:25,000 OS maps, the program now creates three folders at startup. Copy your OS maps into Maps1 and the aerial photos into Maps2 and the 1:250,000 into Maps3 and finally, the Overview maps into Maps4. MRMap also handles the 1:10,000 OS 'StreetView' maps again a free download from the OS website.
If you put your map tiles in the MRMap\Maps folder then leave this as is. If you have them anywhere else, add the correct path to the location of your maps. The same goes for the aerial photos etc.

The OS maps that are available free of charge can be obtained from
https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/openda ... ducts.html

Note however that these can be very big downloads. They are also available on disk from OS and again, this is currently free of charge.

AssetsWindowWidth=220 You can make the asset panel narrower by editing this value or wider if your callsigns disappear off the right hand side of the screen

By editing the ini file entry under............
DefaultTeam=136
to reflect the number of your own team, you ensure that your team will always be at the top of the asset panel and easier to find. The same can be done at individual team member level if you wish. Instructions on that are in the ini file itself.

Can we ask you to please check the entry for your own team and let us know of any inaccuracies.

NEW

New version update which should be used with the new release (3.2b) of MRMap
Addition of Cleveland Team

Please Note also that recent changes to the firmware in the radios has resulted in a need for some teams to alter the value of the FFSK Lead In Delay. Detailed instructions are further down this blog page. Current Excel file version is #7d

It's never a bad idea to just rename your old ini file and then unzip and paste this one into the MRMap folder. Run MRMap with the new ini file and check what's changed that shouldn't. Copy and paste the relevant sections of your old file in where needed.

Better still, use Russ's ini file editor application that can be downloaded from this site.
