Multiple VoIP linked remote radio sites

Now here's one for the internet techies. Adrian Charlton from AW Communications in Carlisle has sent me details of his company's latest device/software package. Many of you will already have heard of the Trip unit which is used to provide linking of two radios via the internet. Although a dedicated landline is still required, this is now a conventional telephone wire and not a leased data line, the ones that cost a lot of money! Voice and a degree of command signalling is sent via the internet, so providing both ends of the system have a phone line connected, there are no problems with the actual distance between them. Certainly a number of Lakes teams will tell you just how much a dedicated leased line costs go up when you pass into another exchange area. Using the Trip device, these problems vanish and distance is no longer a problem.

Recently AW Communications have introduced a software package called 'Multi-Trip' which allows you to control multiple Trip devices and hence, multiple remote radio sites. These sites can be located anywhere (in the world) and are controlled from either your base, your house, anywhere you have the client application running on your computer. The system will handle selcall signalling and some kinds of FFSK data. When I've asked a question of TMC Radio on the subject, I'll edit this posting to say whether our GPS data would pass through these devices. Fixed IP addresses are needed at both ends. TMC tell me that subject to there being no additional data compression applied to the FFSK GPS signals, they should pass through this system - Rob

This was fitted by Adrian and has now operated faultlessly for the past nine months.
