A long overdue thank you

One of my amateur radio colleagues has recently asked to be removed from the mailing list of this site on the grounds of 'Age and infirmity' in his words. This has reminded me that a vote of thanks from myself is very long overdue for all the work that Kendal's radio amateurs (you don't use the word 'Ham' to anyone over 50) put in during the original GPS tracking development carried out mostly in and around Kendal but occasionally up at Keswick MRT HQ under the supervision of Paul Horder, the project originator. All the original 1997 crew are still around and all still hold their amateur licences although most are not so active in both senses of the word these days. Only one amongst us knew anything about the APRS packet radio system we used for the tests and the rest of us had to be dragged up to speed very quickly. A lot of meetings, a lot of tests, a fair amount of destroyed hardware but eventually it was successful enough to be reliably demonstrated by Paul at an MRC (as it was then) meeting in Preston. Most of the radio amateurs involved have maintained an interest in the project as it developed over the years and some still run the MRMap application just out of interest.

So, very many thanks to all of them who took part in the early tests. They were, by callsign which will only be meaningful to other amateurs :-
