As a number of you will know, the MREW comms subcommittee chairman, Mark, has been negotiating with GetMapping for use of their aerial photographs of England & Wales. These negotiations are on-going but Richard of GetMapping has kindly provided us with sample tiles which can be included in the MRMap application. We are grateful to Richard and his company for this as it makes it a lot easier to show you than to describe what the photos look like! The scale of the photo tile is the same as that of the OS map so roads line up etc. I've included the entire screen grab here to allow you to scroll through the image as it would be seen on a computer screen running MRMap.
The circular structure about a kilometre to the left of the radio plot is Kendal castle which was for a time, the home of Catherine Parr who was to become Henry VIII's sixth wife.
The photo has been geo-referenced by GetMapping to allow it to be used directly with MRMap, nothing is required from the user apart from the initial copying of the photos into the Maps folder. Dave will be writing code to handle the maps and photos together so more on this when the work is done.
