Change the channel of your portables from base.

Post by Rob_Brookes »

Here's one recently received from TMC in Oz. It describes how to program your base and portable radios to allow the base to remotely change the operating channel of any or all of the portables under it's control. I've used it to see if it works and it does indeed. The only obvious problem is that if any radio doesn't hear the channel change instruction then it doesn't change channel of course. Likewise it can also happen that once you've changed channel on a remote radio it then nips behind a rock and doesn't hear the command to go back to the original channel.

TMC have thought about this one and the radio having its channel changed will send an acknowledgement signal back to base to say it's done as requested. Shifting the team leader's radio to another channel momentarily for something only he or she needs to be involved with, is one use as is remotely putting any cas-site radio onto the helicopter channel when the pilot is calling and no one's remembered to monitor 62a. It happens. There must be other uses I haven't thought of so this one is more "Out of interest" than immediately useful.
